Although the odds are that their bid for a variance will ultimately be successful, the developers of 163 Washington Avenue are considering a compromise plan with the community, we hear. Presumably the major talking points would be the height of the building and the possible inclusion of affordable housing. The alleged negotiations come more than seven months after an earlier-than-anticipated rezoning of Fort Greene and Clinton Hill left the project, which was planned to be a 16-story tower, ungrandfathered and forced to plead its case with the BSA. The BSA has already held three hearings on the matter, most recently on January 15th. The next (and probably final) hearing is scheduled for March 4, so if a new deal is to be struck, it’s likely we’ll hear about it before then. Meanwhile, whatever shape and form this building takes, its future residents will likely want to sign this petition to connect the Lafayette Avenue G station with the Atlantic-Pacific station.
