The would-be retail site on the corner of 4th Avenue and 3rd Street that’s been in awful disrepair for awhile now was getting backfilled on Monday. The crew on the site said the work was mandated by the DOB, which has recorded a bunch of violations on the property for stuff like its crummy construction fence, copious debris, etc. The site was at one point rumored to be a future Starbucks location, but that obviously didn’t happen and it was put on the market about a year ago. The parcel’s price, originally $3.25 million, is now down to $2.75 million.

  1. if it wasnt for Starbucks there would be like 500000000 more pounds of human poop and pee on the streets. there bathrooms are a great service (tho ive never taken a number 2 in public before, that’s just skank) but i do pee a lot in starbucks all over.

  2. Starbucks blew any remaining “upscale” cred they might have had when they introduced instant coffee.

And ditto on the “burnt taste” comment. My objection to them isn’t about being PC, it’s about their coffee being nasty.

  3. I wouldn’t worry about being PC and starbucks….altho they used to be considered trendy and upscale..these days they can be found anywhere..getting as common and strip mallish as BurgerKing. But I still don’t like their coffee…burnt taste.

  4. thats a hoot rob.

that staples is among the best performining in the chain.

looks like even a fortune 500 company can’t get everyone to know about them.

that being said, i go there often and dread the very thought of shopping there.

  5. Starbucks here would be good for me, but not sure how well it’d fare given the absence of foot traffic. Agree on coffee pricing. I’ve gone to many sub-par places in the area that are within 20c below or higher than Starbucks, and they have inconsistent coffee.

  6. oh i know i’d be going to hell for this but id LOVE a starbucks in that location. people like to PRETEND that starbucks coffee is so expensive, more expensive than little mom and pop coffee shops, but it’s not, and honestly the coffee does taste 10x better. i know it’s not politically correct to like starbucks, but i do. that said, im seeing that Staples sign. is there really a staples there? i always see it but i always thought maybe it was just some closed location because a staples there just seems really strange to me.
