Either we have an over-inflated sense of self-importance or the marketing folks at 385 Union Avenue are hopelessly out of touch. When we called to check up on the 47-unit project, the broker at the rental office had never heard of your friendly neighborhood real estate blog. Regardless, they were nice enough to cough up some basic stats. Evidently, it’s been a rental “for some months now” and “about a quarter” of the units are rented. None of the prices are on the website, but this one bedroom popped up on Streeteasy last week for $2,320 a month and we were told that a two-bedroom on the third floor is going for $2,970 after you factor in a month of free rent. Seem pricey to you?

  1. 65Ainslie – another drawback is that Grand Avenue is in Wallabout, not Williamsburg (you must new around here – you’ll also want to learn the difference between Union Street and Union Avenue)!

    And right or wrong side of the BQE, this little corner of Williamsburg is still the armpit of the neighborhood. In addition to loud, dirty college kids, there are also dirty and loud trucks on Metropolitan Avenue 24/7. And on Union Ave. 24/7. And on the BQE 24/7.

    rf is spot on – it isn’t very charming in this corner of the Burg.

  2. The rental inventory in Williamsburg is seriously depressing.

    2,300 – 3,000 for a mediocre ‘luxury’ new construction one bedroom. Everything else is pretty much run down 450 sqft railroad ‘1 bedrooms’ where half the square footage is taken up by the kitchen. And you get to pay 1,800 for the honor of living in one.

    REALLY hard to find something decent if you want to live like an adult.

  3. I live at 65 Ainslie. The building and finishings are wayyy better than 385 Union. So are the layouts.

    As Dirty Hipster said, this IS the right side to live on these day. A few blocks from the Graham Ave microhood, Grand Ave is getting a whole crop of new restaurants, and the subway stop is much better than the over crowded Bedford stop.

    The only drawback to this building is its mostly full of college age people that are pretty dirty and loud. Its basically one big dorm.

  4. I drive down Union Ave. toward Bed-Stuy many afternoons and it just doesn’t look very charming right there. Just a block east, it seems a lot better; this part looks like gasoline alley.

  5. Although this seems pricey, we’re talking about a building that’s steps to two train lines, and only 2 stops out from Manhattan. Dirty Hipster is right that this isn’t the wrong side of the BQE anymore, and in fact the neighborhood around 385 union is looking really nice these days.

  6. I was banking on this building and 65 Ainslie not renting and dropping one bedrooms to the sub 2k/mo mark. Hasn’t happened.

    Also, this is the “right” side of the BQE nowadays. No one goes to Bedford Ave anymore, it’s too crowded.

  7. I offered 6 months rent in advance for a 1BR on the 3rd floor facing the back (no views except of the dirty parking lot)for $1900 and they came back with a no. Looking back, I’m really grateful that it didn’t happen.

  8. It seems pricey and this building feels cheap- I’ve watched it go up and compared to the one next door (65 Ainslie), it’s definitely lower quality, and just as expensive. 65 Ainslie appears to be a lot more rented too …
