The Dumbo BID reclaimed the Pearl Street Triangle a couple of years ago, transforming it from a junk heap and motorcycle parking lot into a pleasant pedestrian plaza. Now a design competition has turned up some new ideas to reinvent the space. The winner, announced last night at a ceremony in the triangle, was “The Tracks: Ride the Rails” by the Dumbo-based firm (and our landlord) Coburn Architecture.

  1. The last three Sundays have seen the Farmer’s and Community food market that was formerly at the foot of Main Street moved here, supposedly because the original space was going to be full of sewer and water pipes and construction equipment. The space is dead, with little traffic, and as you say, the noise from the trains overhead prevents any conversation while it’s happening.

This Sunday, the foot of Main Street was taken by an ice cream truck; the supposed giant pile of construction equipment was confined to a small area on the other side of the street.
