We dug up the first renderings of the new and improved Strand Theatre building at 547 Fulton Street back in December, but hadn’t heard much about the project’s status since. This morning The Brooklyn Paper has an update on the plans for the space. The headline is that BRIC Arts|Media|Bklyn, which runs BCAT television as well as various arts-related programming around the borough, will be moving its headquarters from a rather uninviting space on Rockwell Place to a ground-floor studio on Fulton that will face out to the street a la The Today Show; the lobby will also contain gallery space and a cafe. The rest of the building will be devoted to two theaters, one with 250 seats and another with 75, and a glassblowing collective. This will be the first time the building has been 100 percent dedicated to cultural use since the 1950s, said Leslie Schultz, BRIC’s executive director.

  1. Very cool! I always wanted to take glassblowing, too. So glad an arts space is re-opening/continuing, not closing down. The arts are an important part of a thriving community.

  2. Going to be an amazing space, with more theaters, dance space and event space which brooklyn sorely needs architect thomas leeser
