It was big news back in April when Toren announced it had landed a supermarket tenant for its ground-floor space at the corner of Myrtle and Flatbush Avenues in Downtown Brooklyn, so it’s big news now that the deal has now fallen through. The lease was subject to certain conditions being met by the tenant within a fixed time frame, developer Donald Capoccia told The Brooklyn Paper, after The Real Deal broke the news last week. Those conditions were not met. How big a bummer is this for Downtown residents and the developers that are trying to attract them?

  1. The appeal of this sadistic-looking building, and in particular its ghastly location, are a profound mystery to me. I could sooner feel at home on the Space Station (where it would also probably be easier to pick up some groceries).

  2. DC came off like a total shmuck on that Flipping Out episode.

Hopefully he’s more persuasive when it comes to wooing tenants in this space.

The cynic in me wonders if they only entertained the idea and used the PR to get some contracts signed…”

crimsonson: THAT WAS THE FIRST THING I THOUGHT OF WHEN I READ THIS! go visit that place- the salesforce is quite desperate. my impression is they’ll say whatever it takes to get apartments to move. the #1 complain is lack of amenities in that area, such as a supermarket (tied #1 for proximity to public housing). so it’s only expected that if they were to start a rumor that would enhance their sales, it makes sense to address complaint #1.

maybe the next move is to say the public housing apartments down the street are getting moved to park slope. that should get a few more contracts signed, don’t you think??

  4. Fresh Direct is good but it’s more expensive than a lot of grocery stores in Brooklyn.

Any grocery store that moves in there would do quite a lot of business.

  5. “certain conditions being met by the tenant within a fixed time frame”

As if vendors are lined up around the block, tripping over each other to sign up.
