Last time we checked in at the empty lot at 11 Broadway in Williamsburg, we wrote it was back on track after nabbing a financing package, and was even courting its own grocery store. Not so fast, says the Brooklyn Paper, which reported over the long weekend about a group of Williamsburg residents who are concerned about a toxic spill underneath the site that has been there for six years. As one neighbor put it, “There are dozens of stalled projects in Williamsburg, more than in any part of the city, so what’s the urgency of putting this building up? Why can’t they just clean up the site as the law requires? Although the state department determined the site does not meet environmental standards, the developers (L+M Development Partners and Goldman Sachs) has said he plans to address the spill in connection with the construction of the 15-story affordable housing project.
