This Romanesque Revival house at 878 President Street just hit the market and, man, is it a looker. The historic detail is amazing (check out that staircase!) and appears to be in great shape (but what happened to the front parlor mantel?). The house is currently configured as a two-family, so there’s some rental income from the garden-floor apartment to help take the edge off of the monthly payments that are associated with the asking price of $3,139,000. Hard not to feel jealous of this one!

  1. GardenAptGirl, you are mistaken. This house is indeed almost by the corner of 8th Ave. The house you are thinking of is one block up, indeed opposite that adult facility that you mention. I think that was HOTD a couple of months ago.

  2. I’m just sorta shocked that in Brooklyn, when people reach a certain age – they have the types of parties where people feel awkward about hearing a toilet flush.

  3. I live on this block and what I would take issue with (if I were even thinking about buying this house) is the adult day care center/medical facility across the street. There are Access-A-Ride-type vans (which transport the elderly who attend the day care center) doubled parked at the top of this block (and across the street from this house) all day long. It causes traffic congestion, honking and noise.

And the broker’s description of the property as “right off 8th Avenue” is a total lie, as this house is almost on the very busy corner of Prospect Park West and President Street. It’s a complete block away from 8th Avenue.

I also would not want to pay $3 million to be in the shadow of 9 Prospect Park West, which is a huge building.

well some of us railing against bathrooms off kitchens and living rooms are also against en suite bathrooms. even animals dont eat and sleep where they poop. i thought we were a civilized people! oh wait..

  5. The 10 story building across the street certainly isn’t a plus. Also there’s an alley at the side that belongs to the 6 story building next door. There you lose the advantage of heating with neighbors on both sides keeping you warm, without the advantage of light from side windows. For $3 million I might take issue with those things (and the tiny kitchen).

  6. It’s interesting all the people here freaking out about the location of this bathroom (and yesterdays coop in Cobble Hill). Considering a lot of the new construction has them opening right into the living area and even into the kitchen areas. Plus, on suite bathrooms opens right into your room so if it’s too disgusted to eat near one I can’t imagine why you’d have no problem sleeping next to it.
