Construction is under way at the South Williamsburg site 11 Broadway, which has had a complicated history as of late. After the original plans were scaled down and new financing was in place, neighbors became concerned over a toxic legacy on the site and asked the developers to address the spill. We haven’t heard anything about it since then, but last we checked the site had broke ground. Anyone know if the spill was taken care of? When construction wraps, this will be a 14-story, 160-unit building. Eighty percent of its rentals will be below market rate.

  1. I’ve tried to call Rep. Velasquez’s office on a number of occassions to get a status update on the environmental issues on this site. She’s never there and they refer me to the community liaison Evelyn Cruz. Her contact information is 718-599-3658 and you can email her at evelyn.cruz@mail.house.gov.

Does anyone know if/how we can check the status of the cleanup? I’d like to know which agency signed off.
