The improvements coming to Grand Army Plaza, covered here last May, are making their way to Landmarks this month. An advisory report is scheduled to be presented to the LPC next Tuesday. According to an LPC spokesperson: “One proposal is from DOT to extend the traffic islands and one from the Parks Department to relocate the statue of Lincoln from within the park to one of the newly extended traffic islands. The Parks Dept application also includes relocating another statue and the installation of paving and benches.” The commissioners will vote on the proposals but their decision is advisory, not binding. This jives with the plans posted on DOT’s website, which says the enhancements are planned for summer of this year.

What happened to the proposed marble statue of Sadik-Khan holding a sword upwards to the heavens and mercilessly stepping on the evil twin-headed automobile deity?
Designer, really, hyperbole has its place, but you can’t cross GAP on foot? Are you just terminally timid? You do know about traffic lights and walk signals, don’t you?

Same deal in Palermo…there is NO traffic law!
Never had a problem walking, biking or driving around GAP.
So glad that they are doing something about that roundabout. That is one of the most dangerous intersections that I have ever encountered as a driver, and I have never attempted to cross it on foot!

I agree with CMU. Try driving in Rome -or better yet, Naples!
Heck, try Washington DC with all its nutty diagonals.
Anybody who can’t drive thru this should probably not be driving. There’s absolutely no problem for anyone who is not on a cell phone or watching GPS. Try driving in London, Paris, Rome or other cities where people dart all over all the time, there’s no lanes, few stop signs and little nanny signage.
That’s the kind of guy I am.
