There’s been serious progress on the Navy Yard addition at Building 92, which will eventually house a historical center. The glassy structure is looking more and more like the finished product’s rendering. It also appears as though interior work is happening at the main building, as pictured on the jump, which dates back to the mid-19th century. What an improvement over how it was looking only a year ago!

  1. Navy Yard not in residential real estate or preservation business, can’t be by charter
they don’t have money to restore property no one can practically occupy and can’t spend city money on someone else property

so statements above are practically meaningless

however, it is sad i agree

  2. @Minard

    Nonsense!

The Navy Yard Corp may not technically own the site of Admirals Row, but they have been willingly and actively making sure that by the time they do, there will be nothing left to save.

Search ‘admirals row’ on flickr…. compare the state of these building now vs just 3 years ago. It’s clear that people have been going in and ripping out windows/door etc.

Did the Army National Guard put that yellow tape up a few days ago? I don’t think so.

The timing will be perfect… they’ll get ownership as there’s nothing left… “oh well, let’s build a supermarket!”

The Navy Yard Corporation is trying to erase Admirals Row from their history… even on this years open house tour, there was no mention of Admirals Row or the Hospital… just a sales pitch for renting new business space inside the Navy Yard.

The Navy Yard Corporation could be saving these buildings, they aren’t. They should carry some of the responsibility. They are calculating to destroy them.

  3. The Navy Yard does not own the site of Admirals Row. The Army National Guard does. I think the Navy Yard would have done something about the condition of the timber shed if they had access to it. Hopefully it will be conveyed to the Navy Yard this year if the sale goes through.
