Tax Day has come and gone, but not all survived: the Subway on Fulton Street has been seized. Thanks to our tipster who passed this info along. Also, the restaurant SoCo, which we covered here before, if officially opening on Myrtle Avenue in May, according to the blog Myrtle Minutes.
Cobble Hill/Carroll Gardens
Lucali is open with limited hours since the owner got into a brawl, according to Grub Street, and the wait is as long as ever. PMFA notices Mocha Bagels is open on Smith Street and signage has gone up at 251 Smith Street. The newcomer? Shelsky’s Smoked Fish, a grocery with “a nod to the Lower East Side.” Grub Street shares word that Gowanus Yact Club will open for the season in about a week….we can’t wait! The ‘Brooklyn Only’ store, called By Brooklyn, has opened on Smith, reports Brooklyn Paper, and finally, despite our guesses that Breuckelen is done for good, BoCoCa Land saw a sign pop up on the window that suggests the restaurant may just be taking a break. Think there’s hope?
Windsor Terrace/Greenwood Heights
An opening and a closing further south in Brooklyn…. A coffee shop dubbed Steeplechase is to open in Windsor Terrace, via Windsor Terrace Blog, and a Brooklynian commenter notices Girasol was closed by the DOH in Greenwood Heights.
After the jump, your Park Slope roundup, a fancy furniture store in Dumbo, and Ample Hills is encouraged to beef up their ice cream flavors….
Park Slope
Probably the most exciting news from HPS this past week is that Dumplings and Things is moving into the old Taqueria Reis spot at 375 5th Avenue. HPS notes, “Dumplings will come in several varieties, and the other “things” will include sesame pancakes stuffed with pork belly, braised beef shin, or Peking duck, bao, and noodle soup.” Seems like a layup to us. Also, cupcake newcomer Butter Lane is renovating, details on the Total Wine Bar space, and A&K Tile Studio has closed.
Elsewhere
New York Shitty writes about a bodega now open in Greenpoint, as well as signs of life at the long quiet 1000 Manhattan Avenue. A furniture store and art studio, going by Olga Guanabara, is now open in Dumbo, according to Dumbo NYC. The Times pens an ode to Maple Lanes, an old timey bowling alley at 16th Avenue and 60th Street which is in danger of closing. A pet and wine boutique is slated for the retail space at One BBP in Brooklyn Heights. Free Williamsburg tells us a foreign language center has opened on Ainslie Street called FluentBrooklyn. A Brooklynian commenter notices a new West Indian restaurant in Prospect/Crown Heights on Washington near Prospect Place. Its name, interestingly, is God Is. And finally, the folks at Grub Street criticize the owner (and the penman responsible for the movie Alien Express) at soon-to-open Ample Hills Creamery for falling short on creative ice cream flavors. Their suggestion? Alien Ice Cream (grean pistachio ice cream studded with chucks of spacey-looking gummies.) Care to throw some more suggestions into the pot for the Prospect Heights creamery?
Also this is the Subway in Clinton Hill, not the one near Fort Greene Place. Which is what I thought it was talking about, but the awning looked out of place.
The place in Greenwood Heights is spelled Jirasol, and they were open again as of yesterday
that subway seem to attract shitty operators. the previous one was also stiffing everyone – landlord on rent, subway on royalty payments, and likely gov on taxes
I like the sound of Shelsky’s Smoked Fish. A good smoked fish shop would be a welcome addition to the neighborhood. I am sick of getting mine from the grocery store. Maybe some good pickled herring too? Can’t wait…
Believe it or not zinka, I do. It’s fixed.
“Fulton Avenue”? Seriously, Emily? Do you even live in Brooklyn?
“The ‘Brooklyn Only’ store, called By Brooklyn, has opened on Smith”
*rob*, a new store opened for you in BoCoCa.
