When considering houses that are 100+ years old, fully renovated is always a mushy term – it doesn’t speak to when in the last half-century the renovation was done, nor ever to taste. I suspect many of these houses have been “fully renovated” many times in the past century!
Buckingham looks nice – but i know i wouldn’t feel safe living between the Caton / Church zone.
SewardWasRight and Bklynite – don’t you think you could pay for play? I wonder how much a HOTD costs.
I’m with Sparafucile. House is lovely and the block is nice. Granted, in earshot of gun fire from surrounding nabe, but everything else is pretty sweet.
The buildings right on Parade Place have witnessed some serious crimes recently, but this block south of Caton always seems quiet. Personally, I’d be willing to risk catching a bullet in order to be that close to the tennis courts. This is a great location with respect to proximity to the park and mass transit.
the 65 1st Place mantel location is also pretty funny.

It’s not my favorite part of the neighborhood either. In addition to the recent homicide, there was another shooting at the exact same corner last June.

“Although the colors in some of the rooms are a little too dark for me, especially with the natural wood wainscotting.” (Boerumresident)
Yes, could be a little to dark for me too. Not sure, though. Would have to see in life.
I agree that the Mary Kay house looks fantastic. Not sure about the location though. I know we all live in NYC and all, but this area by the parade grounds can get sketchy. There was a nasty homicide a few weeks ago on Parade Place, too, which the city somehow failed to clean up for several days. It was featured in the ditmas park blog.
I know somebody whose house backs up to an apt building and it’s not a problem ultimately, they still have privacy and quiet. Depends on what’s planted back there for a screen. It’s always worth seeing for yourself IMO. Especially when it’s an otherwise cute house.
