Cambridge Place in Clinton Hill is only two blocks long but it has a wonderful assortment of beautiful houses on it. One of them is this woodframe at 36 Cambridge Place. It’s got lots of original charm and has been extensively renovated in a tasteful manner. It the sellers get their asking price of $1,725,000 it would certainly be on the high end on a per square foot basis for this end of the neighborhood but we wouldn’t rule it out. We keep hearing from brokers that houses like this that don’t need any work are in high demand and short supply. And this place is still a million bucks less than if it were in Park Slope and half a million bucks less than if it were in Fort Greene. On the downside, you’d have to live around the corner from us.

  1. My 2 cents. Lived 20+ years on Cambridge, moved in as young couple, raised 2 daughters here, all thru public schools (you can work in and out of the zones legitimately). Met is fine enough. The block is gorgeous, the people are great, the neighborhood is plenty convenient and it’s only getting better. We’ve been very happy to raise a family here. Wait until you’re chaperoning kids EVERYWHERE in the ‘burbs. Then talk to me about inconvenience.

  2. PS 11 is an amazing school. This house is zoned for 56, I think, which I know less about. It is not impossible to get into 11 from out of zone, however, and the community and kids are fantastic.

  3. “must suck to not be rich or poor and have kids here”

Words of wisdom from Rob – I can’t make it work thats for sure!, thats why I’m off to the glorious suburbs, taking some diversity with me. I suppose McKenzie might end up being my neighbor if he backs up his words with action.

  4. 1.725. Ha ha. Hee hee. The crash of ’08 is simply on PAUSE (impending doom compounding). It won’t be behind us until we PLAY through it. Few see it coming. Many will be shell-shocked. Again.

  5. i agree mckenzie, youre either loaded or youre skating by on government benefits. or you have 10 roommates and buy your underwear at the dollar store. this city is awful in that respect. im too chary to leave tho.. no where else really exites me or anything. i cant picture moving just for the hell of moving only to possibly wind up just as poor somewhere else. must suck to not be rich or poor and have kids here

  6. like many others I am making plans to move out of the city. There is nothing to keep the middle class here. This house should be worth $600,000. Even then, one would have to wonder where to send the kids to school as the public school in this part of Brooklyn are terrible.

  7. I don’t like to be gouged by realtors and smug flippers who think people will pay Brooklyn Heights prices for Brooklyn Gulch.

Location still matters unless you have more dollars than sense.
