A new french press and espresso bar in Bed Stuy, opened over the weekend at 505 Franklin Avenue, has turned its eye towards Bed Stuy history. We spoke to the owner who told us he envisioned the place as a neighborhood spot with a focus on the neighborhood itself. (A slideshow runs on the wall all about Bed Stuy.) As for the space, the owners had to take out five ceilings and remove the metal lining all the walls. Click through to see a pic of the space during demolition. Much of the cafe utilizes refurbished items, like the windows on the upstairs alcove and some of the old metal salvaged from the renovation. The coffee is Intellegista, the baked goods from Balthazaar, and the cookies from 4th Street Cookies. Great space, huh? GMAP

  1. YAY! I have always thought that Franklin between brevoort and halsey was a great place for a coffee shop.

But i have to defend Bushbaby -supermang–its not that you get bad service because of the color of your skin–EVERYONE gets bad service at bushbaby–unfortunately. i have told Ty a million times that he needs to actually hire wait staff and another cook-and do better with customer service (if you leave folks waiting for 20 mins for coffee–buy them the coffee)–but for some reason he never GETs it.

I am psyched to have another option.

  2. Was there over the weekend with my wife. we are both really happy with this place. Great coffee great vibe, now I don’t have to go to bush baby and be treated like they don’t want my business for no reason other than my skin color.
