  1. Nomi, there are historic houses all over Brooklyn whose interiors were renovated per nothing but bad taste. You know this if you follow Brownstoner. There totally are old-school Brooklyn people whose tastes are more mirrors glued to walls than moldings. It’s not poverty that’s to blame. Last year there were a couple houses in Windsor Terrace that looked like this and that house on PPW that didn’t even post more than one photo its interior was so destroyed and blah.

  2. Thanks for the report. Maybe that’s why there are only pictures of the top floor rental. Obviously I didn’t make it, but my guess is that there are people out there who will bid quickly at the $1.1 level with an eye toward expanding the FAR somehow. If I recall the block, this house is still closer to Smith than Hoyt (and certainly not as close as that fixed up house on Hoyt that seems to be back on the market).

  3. Weird- one of my posts made it, but not the other.
I went to Douglass St, and stand my ground (feral) that it’s awfully close to the projects. I live in the neighborhood and think Douglass st is great towards Smith, but pretty sketchy towards Hoyt. Pretty unbiased opinion.

House is small and unrenovated, but totally liveable as is (meaning bathrooms and kitchen are dated but fine). Backyard is small and needs landscaping, but could be charming. There are some slating to the roof/walls and stairs that i would want an engineer to confirm, but sometimes houses just settle that way. Sidenote- there are a MILLION animals in that house and it smells like dog (and i own a dog). I’ll never understand why people don’t make more of an effort to stage for open houses… it definitely wasn’t the cleanest or neatest place i have been to.

Nice option if you only need two bedrooms, are ok with like smallish sq ft per floor. I stand my ground i think it’s a little $$ for location, size and condition. Maybe i am alone in that opinion…

  4. ridiculously unaffordable houses.
    not worth the price.
only a total fool would buy at these prices.
when the local real estate community decided that they would cut out the middle class, they made a losing bet.

  5. “If you want suburban style move to the suburbs.”

Not fair. Someone bought a house and made it the way they wanted to, or could afford. It’s not really “destroyed.” The porch? It was probably falling apart and there wasn’t money to fix it….

There are houses like this in the “suburbs,” anyway.

People say suburbs like it’s a dirty word.

  6. The broker said about the Beverley Road house:

“Perfect for Mother/Daughter with additional hospitality suite”

So in other words there are three apartments in the house. Three kitchens to remove. And the details-lacking interior is so depressing and blah. Why did people do that? If you want suburban style move to the suburbs. Don’t destroy a historic house. No details outside either — what on earth happened to the porch! Just gone. So sad. I’m not getting the excitement over that one at all. I hope somebody with a ton of money buys it to truly restore it and put the porch back on.
