It’s been a long, hard road for 329 MacDonough Street in Bed Stuy, but the home may soon be as structurally sound as the other brownstones on the block. The DOB recently issued a permit allowing for the conversion of the five-family property into a four-family; work will include alterations to the kitchens, bathrooms and partitions. As of April the shoring was gone but the full vacate order was still in place. In early 2010, a wall collapsed during construction at the property, triggering a vacate order, and there was talk that it would be demolished. Have any readers seen an uptick in work around the property?

  1. The lawyer owner knew to immediately file a temporary restraining order. that is what saved the house. Otherwise they would have demolished them overnight and this end of the block would be a vacant lot today.

  2. It seems to me that the City, particularly DOB, is being rather punitive here. The house was stabilized year ago. Why not lift the vacate order? The DOB can be a scary organization.
