The Journal has an article on would-be historic districts in Crown Heights, noting that the Landmarks Preservation Commission is voting on Phase 2 of the Crown Heights North Historic District today. The proposal would add 610 houses to the district, joining the 472 properties that make up the first phase of the district, which was landmarked in 2007. The LPC is also going to vote on calendaring the third phase of the district, which is made up of 630 buildings, today. Still, the story notes that a push to create a Crow Hill Historic District in the section of Crown Heights bordering Prospect Heights hasn’t been as successful, “leaving some in the Crow Hill section feeling especially vulnerable to unwelcome development.” The exception is the proposed Park Place designation in Crow Hill, which would result in 13 homes being landmarked. Still, the Crow Hill Community Association says that efforts to get community members on board for a larger neighborhood designation have yet to gain traction.

  1. The picture in the Wall Street Journal doesn’t do justice to the interior of St. Gregory’s. It is magnificent- it looks like it was plucked out of Florence, Italy and dropped into Crown Heights. CHNA opens it annual House Tour (first Sat in October) at this church and no one should miss the opportunity to go inside.
