The Church Avenue BID has announced a new contest called “Uncover Church Avenue” that will involve selecting mural designs to paint on buildings and rolled-down gates on Church Avenue from Argyle Road to Coney Island Avenue. According to the BID, the “goal is to encourage the development of vibrant commercial activity along a stretch of Church Avenue with the most abundant vacancies.” The contest kicks off on Wednesday, October 5th, at Bonnie Youth Club (1221 Church Avenue) from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.; local artists are strongly encouraged to participate. The winning designs will be selected by a committee with representatives from local arts organizations, public schools, merchants, and community groups. The goal is to select the winning designs before the year is out and paint them on buildings and gates next spring.
