Last night Community Board 6’s permits committee approved a full liquor license for a 4,000-square-foot beer hall at 84 St. Marks Place, off of 4th Avenue. The bar will hold 200 people, have 30 German draft beers, and an indoor grill serving simple, Cologne-style German food. It’s going to be run by the former manager of Der Schwarze Kölner on Fulton Street in Fort Greene. The space, which is all indoors, will be open from 2 p.m. into the evening on weekdays, and from 12 p.m. on weekends for brunch. Some board members expressed concern about the bar operating on a residential street but the committee eventually approved the license application unanimously. As for the opening date: “We’ll open when we finish,” says the owner. A DOB permit was just issued to “reduce occupancy from warehouse to eating and drinking place.” Sounds like it has the makings of a nice addition to 4th Avenue. DOB GMAP
