Robert Borday, a sales associate from Farran & Associates who sold 107 Prospect Park West, the property on 6th Street that’s being converted into condos, wrote in with a story about the building’s interesting past and some pre-renovation interior photos. He writes:

The building had been vacant for approximately 15 to 20 years and the letters that the Scaramellino family [the owners] had compiled over the years from would-be buyers date back as far as the 1960’s and were in the hundreds. Developers, Investors, Neighbors and anyone and everyone would call and give us a story that they had history with this fascinating building or tell me a story of how they met with the owners about 25 years ago and drove out to their house in LI to try and convince them to sell. [The previous owners] were husband and wife named Ethyl and Eugene who were 93 and 94 years old. They lived in Long Island when the building was inherited from Eugene’s father. They were really torn apart with the idea of selling but their daughter Joan in her 60’s felt it was the right time as finally the stress of owning this building in the same family since 1938 had caught up to them all….

As soon as the current developer Chris saw the building he wanted to see it a second time and brought along his wife and partners. After showing the building to so many interested buyers, Chris, his wife and their partners demonstrated themselves to be true to their profession. His word, his actions, intentions and integrity were all true and in today’s business climate that is becoming more and more a rarity.

The current architect told us the renovation will result in five units, with the team restoring as much of the original detail as possible. It’s supposed to be finished by next summer. It was purchased a few months ago for $2.7 million.
