DOT has approved a home for the park bench made of broken glass from Fort Greene Park. The winning location? South Portland right in front of Greene Grape Provisions. The bench contains a whopping 50 pounds of reclaimed glass, all from Fort Greene Park. In fact, there was enough glass collected to make a larger bench, which the artist, Steven Matt, is interested in selling. Although the original bench was designed to fit inside of a tree plot on Fulton Street, the Parks Department did not approve it on the grounds that it would have diverted too much rain water and put too much pressure on the tree’s roots. If you’re interested in the bench that’s for sale, go here. And check out close-up pictures after the jump.
