As the Wall Street Journal reports, the Prospect Park Alliance will unveil the first phase of the $74 million Lakeside Project at Prospect Park this Friday. There will be a ribbon cutting for the Chaim Baier Music Island and the Shelby White and Leon Levy Esplanade. The project aims to restore the original landscape in the southeast section of the park, which was designed by Frederick Law Olmsted and Calvert Vaux in 1867 but altered in 1960 for the construction of the former Wollman Rink. The huge renovation project was first announced in 2009; the second phase of restoration will include a new 25,000-square-foot facility and two skating rinks, scheduled for completion in late fall 2013.
