La Villita, a Williamsburg icon of a sort, known for its unusual window displays of dusty brown cakes, has been priced out. After 17 years in business, the bakery, which also served inexpensive Cuban sandwiches and coffee, shut down when its landlord asked for a rent increase of $10,000 a month, reported Gothamist. Owner Alfonso Sosa, 46, plans to move to Pennsylvania with his family. No word yet on what will move into the prominent corner spot at Grand Street and Bedford Avenue. Click through to the jump to see a slightly closer photo of the cakes in one of the windows.
