Fantastic news for the firehouse at 365 Jay Street, which has long sat in disrepair: a restoration project is beginning now! The city and the Pratt Area Community Council announced this news way back in 2010, but there were lots of holdups from the city’s end. In the meantime, the roof suffered some severe damage. But we have news from the project architect, Damon Strub, that there’s now a contractor on site. The restoration will take 18 months and should wrap in the spring of 2015. After all is said and done, 365 Jay will look almost identical to its original 1890 appearance (pictured at right), carved brownstone arch and all! The architects will also maintain and upgrade the 18 affordable units in the building, most of which are occupied. Click through for tons of awesome interior photos!

  1. I am so overly excited to hear about the approaching changes/renovation. i always loved that building as i pass by at lunch time and before work. i cannot wait to see it in 2015. I always thought that it will be a great location for a local theatre/gallery.
