When we stopped by Avalon’s Willoughby West site in Downtown Brooklyn, we found this rendering on the fence. It looks a little more attractive than the rendering released earlier this year by SLCE Architects. A peek behind the construction fence showed that excavation is under way for this massive tower, which is slated to become Brooklyn’s tallest at 57 stories (596 feet!) and 861 rental units. The developer demolished 11 buildings at 92, 94, 96 and 100 Willoughby in the spring to make way for the development, and the DOB issued new building permits in August. The construction sign estimates work will wrap in the third quarter of 2015.

  1. I’m about as big of fan of the new downtown developments as there is and even I can only respond with “meh” as to the design. It looks good but what I’m really excited about is how it will impact Willoughby and downtown.
