This single family townhouse in Clinton Hill is pricey but beautifully renovated. It has five bedrooms and three bathrooms spread across four floors, in addition to a large deck and landscaped garden. The house has several attractive original details, like marble fireplaces, crown molding and some ornate ceiling moldings in the kitchen and living room.

The kitchen, which has been moved up to the rear of the parlor floor, has an island topped by a large slab of Italian white marble, a four-burner stove and yet another ornate fireplace. That leaves the garden level for the living room and family room, although it’s big enough that if there were a kitchen down there it could easily be subletted as a separate apartment.

As it happens, this is one of the first Brooklyn rentals from Dixon, the Australian investment firm known for buying dozens of Brooklyn properties in cash in the last year. What do you think of it for $8,995 a month?

  1. I disagree with the general consensus here. I think there’s a huge market for corporate relocators who are dying to live in the new “Brooklyn as brand” and won’t blink at this price. Their housing stipend allows for it, they’ve got a family, and Brooklyn school options, fraught as some may find them, are still less insane than the Manhattan options.

  2. Yes, in fact they are. What’s more, Clinton Hill now has at least five (maybe six at this point since the coop school opened to elementary grades), private schools offering “progressive learning-based crunchy” education a la St. Ann’s.

  3. Wow $12k is ridic. The current price does seem steep but after thinking, it just comes down to can you find 5 people that want to pay $1800 to live in that area? I think that’s a yes.

As a side note, I sometimes wonder where the Pratt kids will end up when the days of $700-800/bedrooms within walking distance to the subway are gone in 5-10 years. Maybe deeper into BedStuy relying on the B38 and their bikes…
