Do you remember 102 Gates Avenue, an estate sale condition Italianate in Clinton Hill that attracted 350 people to the open house in early 2013? Well, now it’s been beautifully restored and is going on the market in a few weeks, according to a story in the BK to the Fullest. Click through to the jump to see the “after” photos of the restored house.

When it was a House of the Day, we said, “Here’s the kind of listing we love to see: The house needs restoration, but just about every original detail appears to be present.” We estimated the buyers would need to spend $200,000 to $300,000 to restore the place.

Commenters predicted it would go over ask, and it did, selling for $1,555,000 to an LLC named Austen Colgate, $260,000 over the asking price of $1,295,000. Luckily, the “before” photos can still be seen on the Corcoran website. The painted trim has been painted cream, the floors repolished, and the kitchens and bathrooms redone. We think the result is unusually tasteful, and we particularly like the bathroom with the clawfoot tub, encaustic-style floor tile, clay sink, and board and batten walls.

Prices have gone so crazy since this sold, the flipper really lucked out. What do you think of the renovation and what do you think the house will go for now?

  1. I think the whole renovation looks really nice. Very sensitive and good taste. My question would be ” who buys stainless appliances anymore?” Stainless is so overdone it has become the avocado green of this decade.

  2. I don’t know how you can say the “bathrooms” are awful when each is so different (well, of course, you can hate them all). I love the first one, with the clawfoot, nice to see a non-glass-box bathing option these days.

Also, I think the kitchen is really nice and love white cabinets and appliances! I cannot believe people still think granite and stainless steel is so great. I’m not sure you can actually gauge the number of cabinets in the kitchen when you’re only shown one wall.
