793 Hancock Street Brooklyn

There’s a dearth of original detail in this week’s Top 10. The homes topping the chart all have modern renovations or are newer construction. And only two of the listings are located in what you might call “prime” Brooklyn. But lovely updated kitchens and exposed brick abound. There’s even a home with a porch swing.

Which would you choose?

10. This unit is in a newly converted brownstone near Herbert Von King Park in Bed Stuy. The finishes look nice in the photos — white granite counter tops, exposed brick, and mod cabinets. The listing also boasts “ample closet space, built in speakers and video intercom.”

9. Just three blocks from the Nostrand Avenue express stop, this East-facing two-bed condo has a small balcony off the master bedroom. The windows look a tad small, but the layout is nice — with the kitchen and bath in the back of the home and the bedrooms on either side of the living room.

8. Last week’s No. 7 drops down a spot to No. 8. One of three condos in a 22-foot-wide historic brownstone at 33 Tompkins Place, this two-bedroom apartment has been newly renovated and restored. Tompkins Place is one of Cobble Hill’s hidden treasures — a quiet, tree-lined, one-block street around the corner from bustling Court Street, but with none of the traffic.

6. This home on 4th Street in Park Slope is easily the most traditional of last week’s Open House Picks — it’s a three-story bay-front brownstone with original details including carved fretwork, three fireplaces, pocket doors, wide plank floors, moldings and some striking light fixtures.

5. Last week’s No. 1 listing lands halfway down the list in this round. It’s a shingle house that has a porch swing, two-car garage and recording studio, but perhaps the most remarkable thing about it is the identity of the seller, The National’s guitarist Aaron Dessner. Technically in Beverly Square West, though many would call it Ditmas Park, the house cost Dessner $735,000 when it he bought in 11 years ago, in 2004, from sellers who had lived there for decades.

4. On Hoyt street we’ve got a three-story one-family with a finished basement, it’s got windows on three sides and all kinds of space, including a lovely rooftop deck with a small second kitchen with Henrybuilt cabinets. (Note: It comes billed as “an entire home for less than you’d pay for a condominium!” — an odd claim to make for a place with a $2,995,000 price tag.)

3. This house on East 2nd Street in Windsor Terrace is a 16-footer with two stories and a finished basement. It’s no jaw-dropper, but it’s all newly renovated, with an open-plan living room/kitchen and three bedrooms above.

2. This new five-unit condo building was only recently completed. The “loft-inspired” apartments look spacious and the kitchens seem to have a nice open layout. The roof and top floor balcony have some excellent views of the Manhattan skyline.

1. This week’s No. 1 pick, on Hancock Street in Stuyvesant Heights, is what looks to be a flip job, thoroughly renovated and not too shabbily, with new plumbing and electrical. At three stories, it’s got a three-bedroom duplex with a garden rental. The former features an open plan parlor floor with a veritable wall of glass at the rear, leading out to an ipe deck with steel rails.
