We heard a rumor that a bidding war erupted over this place this weekend. It’s a 2-floor, 1-family brick house with nice deets on an extra large lot. We hear the block is quite nice, too. Asking price was $1,175,000. Last we heard the leading bid was at least $1,300,000. Does anyone know the address?…

Saw this house a few times….it is 330 Park Place…it was originally for sale by the lawyer for the estate for $1.35M but he couldn’t sell it so it was listed by A&H a few weeks ago.
It is on a great block, and there are only two houses on the block like it…it is a standalone place. with only two floors of finished space. the house next to it is has a third level built on it.
I’m VERY surprised there was a bidding war on this place…all the aforementioned negative comments are true, plus the fact that there is only one bathroom in the whole place. the electricity has to be totally upgraded (doesn’t use modern fuses), the kitchen has to be redone…the fireplace is in that awkward in-between middle room where no-one sits.
The best part about it is the expansion that could happen, but upon closer inspection, the block is apparently landmarked so there’s no way you could add on another level like the neighbors without some pretty heavy lifting at the landmarks commission. you’d have to build back and take up most of the big backyard to get any real living space.
It’s definately on Park Place between Underhill and Vanderbilt. Closest to the Underhill end.

We suspect that the extra-deep lot (130 feet) means that there is still some buildable FAR that is adding value. So maybe you get your 3rd floor after all.
This house was originally listed around 1.3xxM back in fall 2004. I went to the openhouse and didn’t really like it that much. The kitchen was horrible and the bedrooms upstaris were small and chopped up. It is also very different from the many brownstones in the block. I am very surprise there is a bidding war on this house.
You better off buying a brownstone with 3 floors instead of 2 for the same price.
I saw the open house. The address is 330 or 331 Park, about four or five doors down from Underhill.
If it’s the one I’m thinking of it’s between Underhill and Vanderbilt. Of note (and probably not disclosed by the realtor); that Amy Watkins was killed on the street right by that house or just next door. Of course, if it’s the one I’m thinking about.
