towerThe Daily News is confirming Curbed’s report yesterday on problems at Williamsburg’s controversial ‘Finger’ building. According to The News, the building’s developer may have voided his grandfathered project by demolishing more than 50% of a neighboring warehouse. If this turns out the be the case, everyone’s favorite builder Mendel Brach would be forced to scale down the 220-foot tower slated to rise at 144 North 8th Street. Next up: A big fight over the technicalities of how to measure the percentage of the warehouse that was actually demo’d.

  1. btw, has anyone mentioned the Finger building is another shitty Scarano building? The whole issue about lying about how much to demo was just another way for Scarano, the developers, and yet another of Scarano’s sub-par contractors to cut corners.

  2. Yes, Lost we are on same side. I know where you’re coming from. I was just keeping the conversation going. Trying to inform (or is it Instigate) the masses.
Speaking of the masses. Has anyone read the article in the voice about small buisnesses being diplaced? I am curious as to who the developer is.

  3. Hey Lost, That was no human error. They knew exactly what they were doing (just like on the other sites) That Human error bullshit is just an excuse they use. Usually they get away with it. God forbid one of us little guys try to use that excuse. You know what happens to the rest of us when we use that excuse. Even when it truly is a human error the powers that be don’t give a shit.

  4. Yes, it matters.

They present plans and according to these plans the construction should proceed. If they deviate from the plan, that is there risk.

If I have a building, can I just demolish it without going via DOB? Remind yourself that so far at least two workers have been killed in Brooklyn during demolition.

  5. Is it just me, or does it seem like this will not be the last “Oops, did I do that?” incident in Extreme Makeover: Williamsburg. I’m sure we’ll hear such classic comebacks as “It depends on how you define ‘public access'”, and “Affordable housing? Hmmm. Was that part of the plan?”.

    Should be smashing!
