255-259 Hancock
230 Hancock
Across the street from yesterday numbers 246-252 Hancock is another batch of exquisite Montrse Morris-designed houses at numbers 255, 257 and 259, notable for their third-floor loggias. According to Francis Morrone, number 255 (at left) remains almost perfectly preserved. On the Southwest corner of Hancock and Marcy, number 230 is getting a much-needed makeover. We were particularly taken with the bowed stone facade and its window details. GMAP

  1. The makeover at 230 was needed for more than cosmetic reasons. The building was being used as a front for some pretty sophiscticated drug dealers for about a year. It is, indeed, a beauty. While it’s wonderful to see how much more attractive it’s getting everyday, we’re also mindful of how much safer it is too. Another step forward for Bed Stuy…

  2. Aren’t these places great? Thanks, Brownstoner, for highlighting a great block. The houses down the street closer to Thompkins Ave on this side are also unique and wonderful. Not to mention the Kelley Mansion. I’ve been in several over the years, and they are all gorgeous, and beautifully preserved. The people living in most of them are well aware of what they’ve got.
