Picking Up Steam at Vanderbilt and Gates

building
building
We've been keeping an eye out as the development at 25 Gates Avenue has inched along. The corner-lot structure is starting to take form though it is too early to tell how it will stack up from a design stand-point. At least the ground-floor windows appear to be reasonably large. Who knows what this is going to be? Presumably there'll be some retail or commercial on the ground floor. GMAP P*Shark

Digging the tall windows, and omg, real bricks!

I heard a rumour that the ground floor retail space will be occupied by a Dentist's office. Yay! Just what this neighborhood needs! Hoping this rumour has no factual basis whatsoever and that a nice, clean deli or some such will move in.

Please please please, whomever is out there renting that space, do not put a dentist, plastic surgeon or shoddy real estate/mortgage broker in there! Give us a coffee shop, or fresh veggies!!!

Does anyone know how many stories this building will eventually be?

Alex, I'm with you! Just came back from the aptly-named "Hole In The Wall" deli on Grand and Greene. I would happily defect to someplace -anyplace- that was more in the food biz and less in the "candy and loosies" biz.

I spoke with one of the workers and he said it would be five stories. I heard it will be an eight unit condo. Don't know about retail, but if it's true I'm hoping it will be something public spilling life onto the street (ie not a dentist). So much of the potential street life of Vanderbilt between Atlantic and Myrtle has been squandered opportunity leaving us to live with the back of a building that fronts on Clinton or Clermont. Is that a way to build a community in a landmarked district? My question—why are they not building on the adjacent driveway?

Are they people out there blind ? can't you see that you will be having an amazing success if you open a great grocery, veggy, cheese, any quality place we will come.

Heard it was a medical facility ie a dentist. Oh well.

I agree with 4:57, so many people post on here about fresh produce stores or a great cafe around here...I know someone out there has a dollar and a dream. I promise, if you build it, I will...buy an espresso from you.

I'm tired of shopping at whole foods in Manhattan and bring my heavy bags on the subway, it will be about time that we have good grocery and supermarkets a few blocks away from where we live, should all of us get serious about it and create a CLINTON HILL COOP or something like it ??????? EX- Bodegas on Fulton could be a nice space for it.

keep in mind that the nightmare at carlton & greene got some sort of variance - height? - by putting in retail for "public good" or some such nonesense on the ground floor. note that "dentist" equals public good, but not grocery.
on a separate note, for those foodies out there, i think there was some rumor about gourmet garage moving into the first floor of mark morris, but they decided not to go with that. it would have been perfect

Not sure I want a food coop in Clinton HIll of the same ilk as PArk Slope Food coop. We just do the Clinton Hill CSA & that serves u sjust fine. We just completed a nice winter share.

Get off of your cans and call the owner. If he doesn't listen, then picket in front of the building. Whining on a blog won't get you anything.

Does anyone know anything about the pricing and size of these units?
