I though the Is Brooklyn Burning article pretty much in line with what I've been thinking. I especially agree with the idea of the disneyfication of NYC- and I don't much like it. Today in the Post they had an editorial about Bloomberg's arrogance, the Times has one on Bush simply ignoring laws he doesn't like (some of which he signed into law). There is a real sense of entitlement in people with money and power. Brooklyn is looking more like Manhattan every day. I grew up in NYC- one of the things I loved most was that it really is a great melting pot. It's the people that make it the greatest city in the world (imho)not the developers. It should never be bland, bloodless or monolithic but if certain groups have their way, I think it will be.

With all of the immigration over the past thirty years, NYC is more diverse than it ever was during your youth. Brooklyn looks nothing like Manhattan and never will. Get over it.

I have no argument with that- but it certainly isn't for lack of trying by the Manhattanites. If not culturally, then economically. NYC is undergoing disneyfication, like it or not.
