With the youngest Brownstoner turning 1 this past weekend, Mrs. B opted to give the famous Cake Man a try. The red velvet cake with white frosting–which set us back a cool 55 bucks–easily fed 20 or so people and we’re still working our way through the left-overs. The Cake Man is located at 708 Fulton Street in Fort Greene.

  1. I went to the Cake Man for a cake to take to a holiday party two weeks before Christmas and they had not a crumb in the whole place. They looked at me as if I had two heads because I didn’t get the memo that I would have to order 2 weeks in advance to get a cake that wouldn’t be ready until after Christmas. I thought it was a poor business practice to have a retail shop open with no product and haven’t been back since. I mean what’s the point of having staff behind the counter to tell you that there are no cakes and won’t be any for 2 weeks.

  2. once i went to cake man on a saturday morning, there was no cake! why? because it is so damn good they had sold out! run and be happy that the cake is ONLY $55, he should charge more.

  3. I od’ on these cakes last summer due to being pregnant and them tasting sooooo good. My husband went on many runs to cakeman for me and of course he would get a slice for himself. Well after a 4 day binge, my hubby (who is a hypochondriac) calls me to say that there is blood in his stool. Duh honey it is the cake. 🙂

  4. The ABSOLUTE BEST Red Velvet Cake anywhere. $55 per cake is a steal, considering it’s $5 for a lone Slice! Albeit that one slice can feed a small family. He definitely does NOT need to expand, because I’m sure it would lose his personal touch.
