duffieldLandmarks Commish Christopher Moore is pubilcly coming out in support of preserving some of the rowhouses on Duffield Street that have been linked to the borough’s Underground Railroad movement. With the clock ticking on plans to create an office tower and garage on the site, the Economic Development Council (which is widely thought to be leaning against preserving the home) is awaiting a report from the consulting firm AKRF on the site’s historical significance. “Duffield St. may be the last remnant in downtown Brooklyn of this important era,” said Moore, head of the 11-member City Landmarks Preservation Commission. “If you really believe that what happened here was significant in American history, we should have a museum.”

  1. FWIW two of the owners commented in the August thread to which Brownstoner links at the top of this item. They seem to be very much in favor of preservation.

  2. Does anyone know what kind of shape the interiors of these buildings are in? Are there original remnants of the areas used to hide/house the slaves?
