The Bedfordshire at 1200 Pacific and St. Bartholomew’s Church at 1227 Pacific with its 1931 Tiffany window reportedly worth $1 million.
St. Bartholomew’s is a charming and romantic place: squat and friendly, with stone and brick, and trimmed in terra cotta. The tower is crowned with “fish scales,” imbricated tiles in a sinuous profile. All in a bosky bower with a Hansel and Gretel manse.

  1. Oh, your photo shows the rector’s residence, which is connected to the church by a passageway, the actual church is just peeking into the picture in the right foreground. You can see the rest of the church in yesterday’s pictures.

I love how the armory appears in the background. Very medieval town looking. Who’d think this was Brooklyn?

  2. Yeah, you got a photo of the stained glass from one of my favorite churches, as per yesterday’s photos! I used to go to services here, and found the window, as well as the very woodworky Gothic interior absolutely perfect for contemplating the beauty in the Divine.

Can’t say that carries much to the rest of the block, unfortunately. The other building in this thread is directly across the street, and has a lot of unused potential and needs serious TLC. It will take a long time for the rest of the block to get cleaned up. The Imperial apartments are practically next door to that building, and across the street from the church.
