Development Watch: Spencer Street Doubleshot
The intersection of Spencer and Willoughby, in the most barren stretch of eastern Clinton Hill, is the site of two new projects, neither of which we know much about. The one at top is on the southeaster corner the one at bottom is on the western side of the block between Willoughby and DeKalb. This is the same block on which theThe Spencer (one dag-nasty design, in our opinion) was built back in 2005. Can anyone clue us in to what's going on at either site?

Geeze, what a shit box. That rendering has Bricolage written all over it.

Sigh. Here unfolds the usual pattern: express curiosity about a new development, then spend time trashing it. Predictable.
Do you folks like any new buildings?

New buildings are scrumptious. This "design" leaves a bad taste in the mouth. And if it's the normal round of players via The Developers Group, it will not only be a new building, but a shoddy one.
Quality building, aesthetics aside, is what most folks are looking for, no?

Lost in Brooklyn...
the link is to an existing building across the street from the site (the one in the pics)being developed. So, to get back on topic, does anyone know what these new sites are slated for? Anything good?

I disagree lostinbrooklyn. On this site, people seem to care equally about aesthetics. Week after week, new buildings or buildings in progress are profiled and people do nothing but complain about how ugly they are.
If you can point to any posts on this board that say otherwise, then feel free to reference them. I'm sure that the ratio is at least 10:1 in favor of complaints.

Anon, perhaps you have a point, but unfortunately I'd bet the community (again, references to "ugly buildings" aside) wish these new structures, visually pleasing or not, were built safer and legal.
10 to 1 they are not.
The crowd does run the traditional brownstone (thus the name) and frame house route, but I have seen positive posts on more modern architectural styles and rehabs. But common, this one's an out-of-the-box Bricolage "Fedders" number. They can do better.

Off topic, sorry, my mistake on the building...still feel the same way and I'd bet dollars to donuts it won't be a jewel in the architectural crown of our Boro.
Need the address, then we can jump on BIS.

why not knock ugly buildings? we all have to live with these things, virtually forever.

hi
i am about to move into a little house right across the street from the new construction on this block...
does anyone live in the area? is it going to turn into a new williamsburg? I am trying to get away from that, though i do want to live in a relatively "safe" spot... any thoughts?
