Actually, Greene Avenue Atrocity IS for Sale

Amazing. The subject of one of yesterday's posts and the bane of Eastern Clinton Hill's existence, the Greene Avenue broken-windowed piece of crap is still for sale after all. (That would make sense in light of one comment yesterday suggesting the light in the window was just a ruse to create the illusion of occupancy.) Since the real product itself was proving tough to sell, the developer has taken to misrepresenting the interiors. In yesterday's Craiglist ad, he posts the above kitchen while stating that the buyer gets to pick his own kitchen finishes. (Of course, if you read the fine print he does say that "All illustrations are for representations and do not constitute a representation of any aspect of the final product.") Almost as much of a joke as the asking price: $1.2 million. If anyone's interested in expressing their feelings about this kind of conduct, Mordechai can be reached at 917-257-2670 or emailed at 4urealestate@gmail.com.

Is it wrong to hope the developer of this "shit sandwich" goes broke so he never builds anything again?

That must be the new Jerusalem cinder block I've been hearing so much about!

I hope the israeli army sends in one of its bulldozers.

Last week I saw a full moving van unloading at this building and it appears that the third floor is occupied. Then again could be an invisible tenant???

There's plenty more like this over at Queens Crap!

This is so common in Bushwick -- they build these hideous buildings with bedrooms the size of closets, have the nerve to call them "charming," and then post pictures that they weren't even crafty enough to snag from a website -- they are obviously scanned-in magazine pages.
We have a less PC name for these buildings over in Bushwick (besides Fedders and Friedrich), but I'll keep them to myself so as not to evoke the wrath of the sensitivity police.

I like yesterday's "gaza strip"name :-)

you were right the first time, its evoke. Unless you are actually calling upon the wrath of the sensitivity police for some reason.

I live on that block as well. I saw a whole moving van show up and unload.
I can't decide what's worse- an ugly building or the nasty vacant lot that used to be there and littered with trash and full of rats. Of course, there is still a small lot on the corner and it's starting to collect. WHy can't people just take care of their stuff?

Has anyone seen the inside of this building?
Posted by: anon at January 9, 2007 1:28 PM
i'm so sick of hasidic arcitecture... cheap and ugly

I have seen the inside of this building, specifically the lower triplex, and I know for a fact that the upper duplex was actually rented. And the kitchen finishes in the lower apartment were quite similar to those shown -- this might actually be the upper apartment. They were probably the nicest part of the whole place. This style does appeal to certain people -- usually coming from the suburbs/Queens and are used to (or even like) that type of thing. Unfortunately, everyone like that I've shown it to thought it was too small or didn't like the neighborhood (not suburban enough, I guess).

I think there is plenty of crap architecture from all cultural groups- no need to single out the Hasids as the inventors of it.

Eastern Clinton Hill? I'd file that name next to Jerusalem Stone....

We thought it was a relevant modifier. We doubt people on Waverly are losing as much sleep over this as those on Grand.

Perhaps it's a pipe dream given that some of our fellow citizens have lower-level needs with which to concern themselves, but wouldn't it be nice if aesthetics / architecture / urban planning were required topics for study in school?
I mean, wouldn't it be neat to enable chilluns to appreciate the fact that 'we shape our spaces, and thereafter they shape us'?
I can't wait to see how much this visual monstrosity sells for.
