When we checked in with 380 Baltic Street (across the street from the lottery property), developer Joseph Chan was being Mr. Sensitive, meeting with community and political leaders to discuss the scale of the design as well as quality of life concerns. He also brought in a new architect, Peter Himmelstein, who we heard was correcting a number of problems with the original design. Now construction has begun: They have completed most of the foundation and the outside walls for the first two floors are up. We’ve been told that several neighboring back yards were undermined during the foundation process and DOB was called to enforce the repairwork but not all of it has been done. As far as we know, it’s still slated to be 11 stories and 36 units large. There’s no way to be sure, though, because Chan has yet to file the alternative plans he’s been promising community leaders for some time now. Can anyone tell the class what specific changes, if any, ultimately came of all the meetings last Spring?
