Coinciding with the marketing of the first units, The Forte got its first bit of skin last week with this row of windows on the Ashland side of the building. In other news, we got word this morning that the Fire Department showed up at around 9 a.m., sirens blazing. The reason, according to a construction worker, was that a crew member had been “trapped and squeezed” on the work site. The firemen only stuck around for a few minutes so we can only assume that the worker was not seriously injured. Anyone happen to be walking by at the time?

  1. I walk by this building every morning on my way to the subway and am amazed at how quickly this thing shot up. I personally think the building is perfectly non-offensive. I still question weather or not the prices shouldn’t come down a bit since the immediate neighbors are dollar stores and (seemingly) empty light industrial space.

I would also hesitate about buying on the Fulton street side since it is facing two large parking lots that could easily turn into view blocking monoliths once the area is inevitably developed.

As for right now, not *great* immediate surroundings but close to the Fort Greene amenities and fantastic transportation options. Knock 50k off the prices and they’ll go fast. Wish I had the $$$ for one.

  2. Building is gorgeous. Something like this went up in front of my previous rental, on the upper east side, several years ago. Every time I go back. I actually enjoy looking at it — it aged really well. I have nothing against high quality high rises.

Now: if only we could control what goes into the retail downstairs. Case in point: Astor Place has that rather ugly high rise (in my opinion), but it wouldn’t be SO bad, if it wasn’t for the C H A S E in garrish blue just pouring its acid into everyone’s eyeballs for about 10 blocks in all directions. What a shame it couldn;t have been rented out to a less hideous corporation.

this developer does good work and I’m sure they will sell out well, great location, great hood, near transportation,
-As I understand it, high rise construction, although much more expensive to build, has much better success in sellouts
