The City Council’s Landmarks Committee voted unanimously yesterday to affirm the LPC’s designation of 70 Lefferts Place. The committee heard testimony from David Conrad of the Lefferts Place Civic Association, Simeon Bankoff of the NYC Historic Districts Council and Diane Jackier of the LPC. The owner and his architect did not ask the committee to overturn the designation, but asked to have the zoning variance changed to J-1 so they could put more units in the building. Council Member Leroy Comrie (who chaired the hearing) responded that changing zoning variances was outside the Council’s jurisdiction and suggested that they might try asking for support from the community board and the local Council members.
