1000 Ocean
1010 Ocean
Our Spidey sense started tingling when we drove past Ocean Avenue between Newkirk and Ditmas on Saturday on the way back from a dip at Brighton Beach. The front doors of both 1000 Ocean Avenue (top) and 1010 Ocean Avenue (bottom) were wide open and this truck was parked in the driveway in between. Both houses look uninhabited. Number 1000 hasn’t changed hands in decades—and looks the worse for it. The last time Number 1010 made a blip on the screen at the Department of Buildings was back in 1996 when the owner’s application to turn the house into a medical center was rejected. Can anyone from the ‘hood shed any light onto either situation? Update: It looks like the recent sale of Number 1010 for $1,500,000 just hit Property Shark and that the former owner is in Chapter 7.

  1. There have ben some men working on 1010 (currently used as a church) for the last month or so. I pass by both every morning-such a shame -I wish someone would restore them -they are both stunning.

  2. I’ve seen that truck in the driveway of 1000 Ocean for a long time. An acquaintance who lives nearby gave me some neighbor-scoop, but I forget what it was (it wasn’t good)…I’ll try to contact him and ask again. It’s got that ‘haunted house’ vibe that sets my Spidey-sense tingling, too. (Or as my husband says, ‘What is it with you and peeling paint?’)
