Big Price Cut at the Greene House Penthouse

greenehouseext0707.jpgThe asking price on the penthouse at the Greene House condos in Fort Greene was reduced by more than 10 percent last week from $2,100,000 to $1,875,000. As Set Speed has documented each step of the way, this is the fourth time that there's been a price cut at the 1,425-square-foot (not counting more than 700 exterior square feet) three-bedroom condo. The asking price started out at $2,750,000 last February before dropping to $2,500,000 in March and $2,100,000 in May. It's not time for a pity party yet though: As far as we can tell, there are three penthouses in the building, each of which originally sold for $1,206,000. So unless the owner of this one dumped hundreds of thousands of dollars into renovating it, he (or she) still has a pretty nice paper profit to work with.

Here's the real question. Would there ever be pity for someone who lost money in real estate speculation?

Well there's certainly jealousy for those who earn money in real estate speculation. We see that plenty, here.

I can understand the question though, because the owner of this place is greedy greedy and not a terribly realistic person. This is nuts. They overpriced it by a million bucks (if not more, when all is said and done) when they first listed it? Did Corcoran have the listing then too? What were they thinking?
