We’ve always wondered how Freebird Books & Goods, a charming little used book shop tucked away on Columbia Street (near Kane Street), managed to stay in business. After all, their clientele always seemed more focused on hanging out than dropping cash — and they couldn’t have brought in that much profit on their sales of beer, wine, and corn dogs. Still, we were bummed to hear the rumor that one of Freebird’s partners was pulling out. Apparently, after an unsuccessful effort to find someone to fill that partner’s shoes, they put the shop up for sale on Craiglist, with 20,000 books and a desktop computer included in the deal. The shop is health department-approved and has restaurant and wine and beer licenses. — KZ

  1. “Since when has Columbia Street near Kane been considered Cobble Hill?”

At least since I moved there 5 years ago.

“OK- this might be a dumb question- is that 45K for the lease?”

For the business! Who would pay $45K for a lease on a 1200 sq foot space?

  2. We’ve always wondered how Brownstoner, a charming little blog tucked away on Teh Internets, managed to stay in business. After all, their clientele always seemed more focused on masturbating to buildings than involving themselves in the community — and they couldn’t have brought in that much profit on their banner ads for local housing (that most people block via AdBlock). Still, we were bummed to hear the rumor that Brownstoner was staying in business, serving the needs of up-coming yuppies intent on destroying Brooklyn. Apparently, after an unsuccessful effort to find someone to fill Thor Equities shoes, they put the site up for sale on Craiglist, with 20,000 whining, southpaw-t-shirt wearing people and a desktop computer included in the deal. The site is marketing department-approved and has restaurant and wine and beer licenses.

  3. OK- this might be a dumb question- is that 45K for the lease? Have to assume so- or I am going to get my hands on a 45K apt ASAP.
But why no info on the lease on CList if so?
Also- you would think they would highlight the liq lic. before the 20K books the next owner has to throw away.
