Now Open: Papa Lima Sandwich
362 Bedford Ave., at S. 4th St. Williamsburg; 718-218-7720
“All the produce comes from Greenmarket, the breads from Tom Cat Bakery, and the mortadella on the toothsome Jones Road hero from boutique salumi maker Fra’ Mani. The Evil Reuben (smoked turkey, provolone, coleslaw, and Russian dressing on marble rye) is first-rate, too, but [owner Pete] Levin’s personal fave is the Pablo Honey, a turkey-and-potato-chip sandwich with a side of dipping gravy.” [Grub Street]

Coming Soon: Mordecai
46 Beard Street, Red Hook
“Just got an email about the space was was formerly Lillie’s in Red Hook. The word is that the chef behind Petit Crevette and Bouillabaisse (Neil Ganic?) will be serving food, and there will be an adjacent restaurant/music space, La Bouillabaisse. The spot will be named after Mordecai Gist… That last bit of information makes me think ‘Is this for real?’ ” [A Brooklyn Life]

Rumored Opening: Cupcakes on Flatbush
286 Flatbush Avenue, Park Slope/Prospect Heights
One Eater tipster reports that the old Music Emporium space on Flatbush is set to become a bakery. Meanwhile, SuperVegan claims that Isa Moskowitz is opening a Park Slope outpost of her West Village sandwich and cupcake shop, s’Nice. Unless these two rumored openings are connected, or the neighborhood could be getting two new cupcake purveyors.

After the jump: NY Press reviews Carniceria and another one bites the dust on Smith Street…

Review: Carniceria
241 Smith Street at Douglass Street, 718-237-9100
“The real draw at Carniceria is the assortment of Nuevo Latino starters and appetizers. The empanadas ($8)—one stuffed with buttery Swiss chard, the other with delicate ground beef—are delicious and could constitute a meal on their own… For something a little lighter, try the conchitos ($9), a ceviche dish composed of bay scallops, salsa verde, avocado and pico de gallo. And for those who can’t get enough meat, make sure to sample the costillas ($12), a savory pile of short ribs with an apricot glaze and a grilled onion salad.”

Is Sapodilla Done-zo?
“Saw the ‘for rent’ sign in the window last night. Certainly hope something better fills that spot.” [Nehna on Chowhound]
