Yesterday we learned that a Williamsburg/Greenpoint-area called Hotel Le Jolie is set to open within the next few weeks, so we decided to check it out in the flesh. The hotel comes c/o the same team behind Gowanus’s Hotel Le Bleu, hence the French name. Anyway, we think the photo above is worth a thousand words, n’est-ce pas? What’s not really visible in the pic is the fact that the back of the property is a few feet away from the BQE, so presumably Jolie’s owners invested in some excellent soundproofing materials. Rooms are expected to run between $200 and $350, according to general manager Robert Gaeta, which is quite a bit cheaper than Le Bleu. Think those rates will fly?

  1. I actually grew up in Williamsburg and lived there for over 30 years. When I visit NY (from NC), I usually stay with family in the Williamsburg area, so I’ve never had to rent a room. This year, I’m coming to Brooklyn (from NC) with my fiance and since this is his first visit to NYC, we wanted to stay in Manhattan. I think someone must be smoking crack in the Manhattan hotel industry, because we couldn’t find a hotel without a shared bathroom for less than $350.00 per night! When we looked for a hotel in Brooklyn, we couldn’t find one for less than $250.00 per night. Even the Brooklyn Marriott (Brooklyn Hgts) was over $300.00 a night. With the way Williamsburg is booming, this hotel WILL GET THE $200.00+ per night they are charging. It’s a quick subway ride to NYC and no one over the age of 25 wants to share a bathroom! Hence, parents and grandparents who want to visit their kids or grandkids in Williamsburg will definately pay $200.00+ as opposed to paying $350.00+ to stay across the bridge in Manhattan. I went to Europe (Paris, Amsterdam, Rotterdam and Belgium) this summer and didn’t pay $350.00 a night, didn’t share a bathroom and had flat screens tvs in all my rooms! I’m certainly not going to visit NYC and pay $200.00+ a night to share a bathroom or sleep on a bunkbed. Sadly, if you’re not willing to pay the $350.00 that Manhattan hotels charge, then you’re (as we say in Brooklyn) SOL!

  2. 2:14 PM Yes, I live in Williamsburg. Yes, I know how much money is here. We have family that wants to come and stay too — but I’m not sure all the parents on the hui combined are enough to support a real hotel. Now factor in some European tourists and yeah, you’d probably make money.

  3. 11:32am. do you live in williamsburg? do you understand the money in the neighborhood? i have a big place – room for guests – but my upstairs neighbors have a baby and they don’t. know that they like others in the area would not put their visiting friends and family up at the Greenpoint Y or a hostel. that’s nuts.

what’s happening now is that people sublet / short term rentals for visitors.

  4. yes until something better comes along. i’m on yahoo parents groups and there are constant requests for rooms in williamsburg. when people have visiting relatives they want them as close as possible. especially grandparents.

  5. With $200 as the high end, possibly. But I think the main traffic for the Williamsburg/Greenpoint area would prefer the Greenpoint Y or that weird hostel on Broadway, both of which are under $100/night. There may be some demand for parents and relatives visiting locally, but those prices are a little high even for that. I know there’s a lot of money in the Burg now, but there are nicer hotels in Manhattan for that price and the BQE location just seals it. Anyone from out of town would probably find that location too remote to pay for.
