This just in from our Clinton Hill neighbors who are in the middle of renovating their bathroom…The tub is in and the plumbing is set. They are framing the rest of the bathroom now. The grandparents arrive on the 22nd and our
contractor has PROMISED that the bathroom will be ready
…Anyone care to place a bet?

  1. It’ll be done, the prep work has been completed so essentially all that remains is cosmetic. maybe not in your eyes but it will. Have faith.
    Merry Christmas.

  2. Oh, and 6) put up a curtain or any waterproof opaque or transluscent sheeting material on the window…of course! And slap up a cheap shower curtain rod…though you can staple plastic sheeting to the ceiling and let it drape down into the tub.

Again, good LUCK and happy holidays!

  3. Yes, and I meant to add that if your contractor pulls it together by 12/22, PLEASSSSE get his/her name and contact number to us!!!!

    Again, GOOD LUCK!

  4. GAME PLAN:
    1) Set down the toilet and secure it.
    2) Either screw up the green/cement board…or just staple up heavy-duty plastic on the walls.
    3) If flooring needed, get sheet of roll-out material and nail down the edges.
    4) If the spigot is working in the bath/shower, you’re all set…it can double as a sink if it is not in as yet.
    5) If you need a surface/counter, here are some options: IKEA something or other, door on trestles, plastic pop-out table, bridge table, or whatever countertop pieces or stray stone slab you have around. Even a not-too-heavy piece of slate/bluestone can work on a barrel!

If all else fails: use a couple empty joint compound bucket…good for all needs!

    Good Luck!!!

  5. might want to have a porta-potty on hand just in case.

also, a rush job done only to accomodate guests might impact the quality of work as well.

    Time for Hotel Le Bleu?

  6. Sometimes, contractors are responsive to the “baby due” or “grandparent arrival” type of deadline. But this has a ways to go; framing, painting, tiling, grouting, sink, countertop.

If they already have the floor tile, i woulds ay they’ve got a shot at a tiled floor, working toilet and shower with no tile on the walls and no trim on the shower body, exposed and untaped/unpainted sheetrock walls, no grout, and a medicine cabinet you have to open very carefully so it doesn’t slide out of the wall. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but I hope the g-rents like roughing it.
