The bodega opposite the sales office for Oro Condominium (pictured in background) has had this “organic market coming soon” wrapper around its facade for a year, yet there’s no organic food for sale. If the tiny box really is turning into a green-mart, it appears it will take awhile – no application for work has been filed with the Department of Buildings since an automatic fire suppression system was installed in 2003. Inside, the bodega’s few shelves are disheveled and bare, but the deli runs a brisk business, especially with swarms of construction workers a captive market. The next closest neighborhood amenity is the Starbuck’s inside MetroTech now that Myrtle Avenue’s retail has been cleared indefinitely for development.

  1. This is on Johnson and Prince. Apollo is the cook there and he makes great sandwiches. They really dont have anything except sandwiches, french fries, bananas, cigarettes, soda and cans of ravioli.

  2. Thankfully, 4:44, there is a name for your condition:

    Diagnostic criteria Delusional Disorder

    A. Nonbizarre delusions (i.e., involving situations that occur in real life, such as being followed, poisoned, infected, loved at a distance, or deceived by spouse or lover, or having a disease) of at least 1 month’s duration.

    B. Criterion A for Schizophrenia has never been met. Note: Tactile and olfactory hallucinations may be present in Delusional Disorder if they are related to the delusional theme.

    C. Apart from the impact of the delusion(s) or its ramifications, functioning is not markedly impaired and behavior is not obviously odd or bizarre.

    D. If mood episodes have occurred concurrently with delusions, their total duration has been brief relative to the duration of the delusional periods.

    E. The disturbance is not due to the direct physiological effects of a substance (e.g., a drug of abuse, a medication) or a general medical condition.

  3. Doesn’t anyone get it? That banner was bought and paid for by the developer of ORO so that any prospective buyer would think that amenities were coming to the hood–that in mere months you’d be able to pop downstairs for organic produce. That Flatbush Avenue would be hopping! I’m surprised no one looked for the work permit months ago.

  4. Let me get this right, the shelves are bare but still doing brisk business. Don’t need no food on the shelves when you are selling crack.

  5. pretty safe bet that the change-over from bodega to overpriceda takes place before the adjacent hotel opens.

although i’d love to see it stay – would be a nice microcosm of the immediate surroundings – lux hotel adjacent to bodega, lux condos down the block from projects.

this is the contrast that makes brooklyn so interesting.
