We’ve been wondering for a while whether anyone was going to try to build on the empty lots across from the Farragut Houses on York Street in Vinegar Hill. We now know the answer: Yes. A six-story, 10-unit Bricolage-designed building is currently rising on the lot at 181 York Street. Given the proximity to the projects and the point in the market cycle, we’d be betting on rentals over condos, but, hey, you never know. After all, another developer thought the residential possibilities on this stretch were compelling enough to merit tearing down a church. GMAP P*Shark DOB

  1. Go shove it, 2:28 / 6:08. Welcome to New York, there are projects here. If you look at Brooklynlove’s profile you’ll see that he lives in Vinegar Hill and has probably been living in Brooklyn since before you were born into a subdivision in North Dakota.

I’d be far more worried about securing a mortgage by the time this building is finished than worried about crime if I were to consider buying a condo in this building. You can ask the tenants of 99 Gold how they like the neighborhood — it’s nearly full and they’re paying VERY high rents for the pleasure of their luxury rentals. They have their lovely possessions in full view of the neighborhood and I have yet to hear of an incident over there.

And yes, I live in this neighborhood too.

  2. brooklyndouche above, why would i be a dumbass? is it because i am not PC and speak the truth? Would you honestly live there? If so, you are some out of town idiot who will get their hipster ass mugged..enjoy!

  3. oy vey. it’s news items like this one that keep me from really truly digging this site. i can live with the dumbass commenter now and then such as 2:28, but an entire brownstoner topic is too much to shrug off.

  4. this has to be a joke…who would live here? you would be mugged at least 3 times a week (and that is only if you never leave your house outside of 9-5…)

  5. Hi Brownstoner. You guys are so great. I love the work you do here and the Flea. My favorite feature – co-ops of the day or co-op round up or whatever has gone missing for the last couple of weeks! I am looking for a beautiful pre-war one bedroom in park slope and take great inspiration from this feature. Thanks!
